Shahid Suhrawardy Hospital established as 'Ayub Central Hospital' in 1963 at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka. It is a general hospital with all modern facilities and is owned and managed by the government. Its buildings and the compound stand on an area of about 19 acres. The outdoor facilities of the hospital serve about 970 patients daily and the indoor facilities are provided by departments of medicine, ophthalmology, surgery, ENT, child diseases, dermatology, gynaecology, physiotherapy, and dentistry. The hospital also provides investigation facilities for pathology and radiology. In 1999 it had 110 paying and 197 non-paying beds and the occupancy rate exceeded 100%. It had 97 doctors, 117 nurses, 33 paramedics and 181 other staff.
