Purojpur is also the name of a city of about 100,000 persons.Most of the land are low lying and the soil is very fertile.There are samll forest here and there.
Pirojpur district is divided into the following units, also known as Thanas : Pirojpur Sadar, Nesarabad, Mothbaria, Bhandaria, Zianagar, Nazirpur. The subdivision of Pirojpur was created in 1866. The Pirojpur municipality was established in 1985. Nesarabad is famous for business centers and also for the Sundori tree (a kind of mangrove tree) that grows there.
Launches,steamers,boats are used for travelling on the rivers.The port there is called hullahut launch ghat.Buses,auto rickshaws and ricksaws are also used for transport.
